Doin' it.

My collection of thoughts, random musings, musical creations and lessons in life.

fruitility of labor

God has rigged our lives. Apart from Him we can’t know life. Apart from HIM being in the center of our lives, everything else in our lives is vanity. In my study today in Ecclesiastes chapters 1 and 2 I learned that I can chase and inherit the biggest jobs, dreams, affirmation from peers and family, money, and collect all the wisdom my mind can handle but without God in the center of it all NONE of these things will make sense and make me happy. It is all vanity. When I say vanity I mean it as the word, meaningless. All these things we toil and stress ourselves over everyday are all meaningless if God is not at the center of our core.

Ecclesiastes 2:24-29

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

24 There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and [a]tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God. 25 For who can eat and who can have enjoyment without [b]Him? 26 For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God’s sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.

Not to say that we shouldn’t strive to reach our dreams and goals. It’s just we (human beings) have perverted all these wonderful things God has created for us and fallen in love with them more than the Creator. We have lost our way in a world which constantly teaches us that nice houses, college degrees, and high paying jobs is what will provide us peace of mind and happiness. We have been offered infinite pleasure yet we are far to easily pleased with the “little” things. The goal in God for us, in the development of us, is not to desire less but actually to desire more. It can’t be found in the things we think, but ONLY in Him. Don’t get rid of our desire but point our desire in the direction it was created to find ultimate fulfillment and peace. Only then, when we put God as the center of our lives, will our accomplishments,  9-5 jobs, and earning of money make sense.

This has shed some more light on what God put in my heart a few weeks ago. I hope that this stirs up something inside of us and challenges us to rethink what is being forced on us by the media, the world, and unfortunately at times even our own families. Let us not settle for the “little” things but desire to achieve ultimate happiness and fulfillment that is so freely offered to us.

praying for you,
